Welcome to Rio Concho Manor, where senior living meets comfort and affordability! Our story begins as the original flagship of the Rio Concho Communities, born out of a heartfelt collaboration between retired officers from Goodfellow Air Force Base and visionary city leaders like Houston Harte and Colonel Robert Augustinus. Together, they saw the need for low-cost housing for seniors and set the wheels in motion.
In 1962, the Rio Concho Trust was established with a clear mission: to provide dignified and affordable senior housing. They sought funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and with the help of Mr. Houston Harte’s connections, even President Lyndon B. Johnson got involved to push the loan through HUD for approval. The result? The birth of Rio Concho Manor’s iconic high-rise building in 1964, now home to 222 inviting low-cost studio and one-bedroom apartments for senior citizens. Plus, 47 of these apartments are subsidized through HUD, offering rental assistance to qualifying residents.
What sets Rio Concho Manor apart is our commitment to ensuring you live your best life. We offer high-rise apartment-style independent senior living that comes with privacy, security, and a vibrant community. You’ll find planned activities to keep you engaged, on-site management and maintenance for your convenience, a beauty/barber shop to pamper yourself, and even RV parking for the adventurous at heart. Best of all, all utilities (except telephone) are included in the rental price, making your life hassle-free.
